Now that I have made it through lots of
writing for work, I can finally write for pleasure again. The past weeks have
been nerve-wracking especially this last one and I still kind of have to
realize that I am properly finished with uni for good. It's insane. It makes me
feel really old and yet really young. I'm excited and scared and relieved and a
bit worried…okay, I´m terrified. But I somehow have this feeling that
everything will fall into place eventually. Let's hope I'm right.
Seen as I'm just getting back down to
earth and some wise words are never wrong in times of change, I have collected
some of my favourite Beau Taplin poems and quotations. I have written about how
inspirational his books are to me before and I find myself re-reading my
favourite bits over and over. So here are some of them that I love especially:
What
I consider to be amongst the worst of all bad advice is the concept that we
should always be moving forward.
It´s
usually the ones that approach life as a race to the finish line who reach it
first.
Nobody
is perfect until they´ve been taken away.
I
think I am unhappy. And I think I am self-centered. And I think I am a phony. I
think we as humans are all like jigsaw puzzles and some of us are born missing
a piece.
The
heart has a funny habit of wanting
exactly the opposite of what the head does.
I
got a book published and sold four hundret and twenty four copies; nobody
bothered to notice it was nothing more than an overblown suicide note.
I mean stop being such a goddamn realist about
romance when it is entirely illogical.
„Sweete“,
he said-laughing through tears, „I would always choose to be in pieces with you
than all together, alone.“
There
are no irredeemable failures.
What
makes a story is not necessarily the moments you spend moving forward but the
moments you spend lost or stuck, it is the process of figuring a way out.
The
sad universal truth of the heart is that it doesn´t often fall for simple,
lovely, easy things.
Endings
can often be beautiful too.
The
hours between 12am and 6am have a funny habit of making you feel like you´re
either on top of the world or under it.
Who
a person kisses
sleeps
with
or
even marries
is
of no real consequence.
It
is who a person
misses
in
the middle of the night
who
matters
who
is of
most
importance
There
are a few things in life so beautiful they hurt.
The
difference between an ordinairy life and an extraordinairy one if only a matter
of perspective.
The
fucked up truth of it all is not everythings happens for a reason. Sometimes we
make the wrong decisions and are asked to live with them for the rest of our
lives.
Do
not call me perfect, a lie is never a compliment. Call me an erratic, damaged,
insecure mess. And tell me that you love me for it.
Honest
connections between human beings haven´t any patience for politeness or
reservations or formal introductions. That´s the difference between something
good and everything else.
Thing
is, love is a story that will sometumes end dead in the middle of a sentence,
questions will remain unanswered and narratives unresolved.
Sometimes
home has a heartbeat.
It
is easy to forget, when you have a broken heart, that it is not the
responsibility of others to put you back together, it is yours.
It
is not only the good things in life that have a positive impact on who we are.
Everything
that is tragic and difficult in the world is beautiful when viewed in a certain
light.
Don´t
wait around your whole life for somebody who completes you. That´s not how it
works. You are the sum of everybody you´ve ever lusted for and loved. Drink
life in through your lips. Dig your nails into its skin. Leave bruises on the
neck of it before you settle down. A soul mate is not the whole picture,
remember that, they are just the final piece.
I´ve
had relationships lasting years I can now scarcely recollect, and hours with
others that feel like infinities.
In
real life happy endings are a rarity. For the most part, endings are ordinairy,
and other times, they are so sudden and unexpected they can hardly be
considered endings at all. Some of the things you love the most will disappear
without a trace and you´ll never really know where they went off to. You won´t
always have the answers. You won´t always find closure or receive compensation
for the hurt. Sometimes, you´ve just got to take a breath, make peace with
yourself, and do your best to move forward.
I
am awfully sentimental, of books, belongings, people, places. It matters very
little how positive or negative the experience was. If it shared some
meaningful time in my life, I will have trouble letting go.
As
of late, I´ve found physical attraction is no longer enough. I need genuine
connection. I need to undress the layers of a soul before I feel the desire to
tear away any clothes.
I
am a loner at heart, but you would never know it, because despite the dull
steady ache in the back of my mind always begging me to leave. I regularly make
the effort to leave the house and mingle, to appear both approachable and
friendly.
Listen,
I don´t think there is ever a good enough reason to give up.
And finally: this amazing poem, which
is what got me interested in Beau Taplins writing in the first place:
One
day, whether you
Are
14,
25
or
65
you
will stumble upon
someone
who will start
a
fire in you that cannot die.
However,
the saddest,
most
awful truth you will
ever
come to find-
is
they are not always
with
whom we stend our lives.
