For when you don´t quite know what´s next

Recently, I get asked one question again and again: „What are you going to do after you finish studying?“ Literally everybody wants to know. My mum and dad, my doctors, my new employer, the guy I´m chatting to at a bar. As if I have a set plan that I will follow trough. As is anyone actually knows what the hell they´re doing.
I used to think I was the only person confused as fuck about where their life was going...the older I got the more I worried „shouldn´t I have things figured out by now?“. Well, over the past years I learned that pretty much everyone feels that way and that´s fine. If there was a certain path to happiness that worked all the time, lets face it: life would be pretty dull. But because we are all different we live our lives different ways and that´s OKAY.
I feel like even my parents (who are pretty young and modern as far as parents go ) still seem to believe in the „get a job – get married – have kids“ kind of mantra, even if they won´t admit to it. But in a world where you can make money by sharing your life online and enjoying what you do isn´t a completely crazy ideal anymore, things are really changing. And not everyone understands that.

We live in patchwork families, have friends across the world and speak up for what we believe in - our generation is slowly getting rid of all the silly rules. We believe we can do anything and if we work hard for it, we can. The problem is really just deciding which road to take. And if that wasn´t hard enough already, why does everybody question us about it all the time putting even more pressure on us?
And it´s not like saying the truth, which would be something along the lines of „I don´t know yet. I kind of want to work for a bit and then maybe travel and just see where things go“, is going to make them shut up. Because then the critisizing happens. Words like „money“, „naive“, "grow up" and „real world“ get thrown around. As if anybody else can tell us what will make us happy. Jesus, we don´t even know ourselves.

So I guess the bottom line here is that I believe we all need to stop judging other people´s life decisions AND forcing our ideals on them. Of course I understand that family and friends only want the best for me. But if what I think is best varys from what they think is best, doesn´t my view count? It is my life after all. So I should get to choose what to bloody do with it - thank you very much.
